Title 1 School-Parent Compact, Turkeyfoot Valley Elementary

2019-2020

 

Turkeyfoot Valley Elementary, and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title 1, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help student growth and mastery of the PA Core State Standards.

 

School Responsibilities

The Turkeyfoot Valley Elementary will:

1.  Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating learners to meet the rigorous PA Core Standards as follows:

·        Each classroom is supported by an instructional aide meeting highly qualified guidelines

·        Technology Integration – Each student in grades K-6th is assigned an individual iPad for instructional use

·        RTI Support for all students grouped by individual needs 30 minutes each day in reading and math grades K-6

·        Independent Reading Level Growth is monitored frequently throughout the year using MAP Reading Fluency, IRLA, & DIBELS

·        Student growth in mathematics, language, and reading is assessed three times a year using MAP tests in grades 3rd through 6th.

·        Teachers participate in high quality professional development training several times a year for updated curriculum rigor and improving instructional techniques.

 

2.  Hold parent-teacher conferences to communicate individual student achievement:

·        November 14, 2019       Hours 9:00am – 3:00pm &  6:00pm – 8:00pm

·        February 17th, 2020      Hours 9:00am – 3:00pm &  6:00pm – 8:00pm

·        By appointment with teacher as per parent request

 

3.  Provide parents with frequent reports on their child’s progress.

·        Goedustar on-line gradebook program with parent portal access

·        Summit parent accounts to monitor progress

·        Report cards sent home at the end of each nine weeks of instruction

·        Progress reports are sent home at the mid-point of every nine week grading period

·        Annual PSSA results – schoolwide and individual

·        MAP Growth reports at spring conferences

 

4.  Provide parents reasonable access to staff

·        Parent Teacher Conferences: November 14th & February 17th 

·        Open House/Annual Title 1 Meeting – September 12th

·        Parent Involvement Meeting(s), November 14th

·        Orientation Meeting(s), August 21st 

·        Parent Compact meeting(s), November 14th

·        Provide Parents reasonable access to staff through e-mails, phone calls and scheduled afterschool conferences

·        Provide parents to participate in their child’s classroom and observe classroom activities.

·        Parent/Grandparents Lunch (November), Family Nights (October and March), Coffee and Conversation (September), Doughnuts/Muffins with Dads and Moms (January), Christmas Program (December)

·        Parent Advisory Council

 

Parent Responsibilities

We, parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

·        Monitor and encourage regular attendance

·        Check homework folders nightly and sign and return papers that require parent signature

·        Attend parent-teacher conferences staying informed about child’s educational growth

·        Maintain open communication and encourage a positive attitude toward school

·       Attend and be actively involved in child’s school activities

  • Fall Stakeholder Meeting

    • Annual Title 1 Meeting for all parents/guardians of students in grades PreK-6
    • Annual schoolwide meeting for parents/guardians of students in grades PreK-6
    • Sign ups and information on our new Parent Advisory Council that will work directly with administration to offer advice and feedback
    • Information on assessments used in the school and sign-ups for parent accounts on Summit and Goedustar
    • Information on our school musical and opportunities for parent involvement
    • Order free informational materials on a wide variety of topics
    • New - E-blast - Sign up to receive emails of important Information
    • Fall Title Surveys will be available 

October

  • Go Parents! – Stop by in the morning for an on the go treat and educational materials.  Juice and doughnuts will be handed out as you drop off your children.  No need to leave your car, just stay put and we will share breakfast and conversation with you. 
  • Reading is Spooktacular Family Literacy Night– October 28, 5:30-7pm. Join us for a night celebrating literacy in the arts, reading, writing, and history.  We will have writing workshops with author Alan St. Jean, music workshops with SimpleGifts, fun activities in reading and history, and trick or treating in the school halls!  Costumes are welcome!
  • Fall Title Surveys Due 

November

  • Annual Review of Parent and Family Engagement Policies and the School Parent Compact – meetings will be available during conferences and parent-grandparent breakfast/lunch days.  Copies of these are included.
  • Conference Day, November 14th – Stop by the Federal Programs office to sign up for parent accounts, join the email list, or learn about our programs and assessment

December

  • Annual Christmas Program , December 17th, time to be announced – Educational support materials will be available in the lobby  

January

  • Muffins with Mom and Doughnuts with Dad, TBA – join the administration for breakfast and conversation, date to be announced

February

  • Conference Day, February 17th – Stop by the Federal Programs office to sign up for parent accounts, join the email list, or learn about our programs and assessments

March

  • Family STEAM Night, TBA – Come have fun learning about technology, science, and the arts.  Date and time to be announced.
